Respite

such things the rapt
shall swallow whole
to fill their belly
light and song
a glance, a stir,
the passing gesture
yet life source stills beneath
and reflecting bleeds
the starting sum
to be caught empty
and utterly
awake
behind the funhouse
where wild daisies push past
the concrete blocks
and people pass
unacquainted
with the scent of lavender
and wine
’til pain tastes
the sweetest blood
alive
and kindness smiles
his eyes
from suffering
the united real and this
spirit forth
you reaching out now
your shining arms,
your gleaming teeth
and the fire held within
enough,
ah, enough to free,
free
the dammed deluge of humanity,
the damned deluge of humanity
in me.
